On Brevity

This one’s going to be short, but I wanted to show up because Monday is for Vanilla Thought. Like I wrote last week, that’s what commitment looks like.

Here’s the truth—it’s been a rough couple of days. Like really rough. I’m not super into complaining so I’m not going to dwell on the details, but what I will say is this: Sometimes it is okay to feel sad. Sometimes it is okay to cry until you can’t anymore. Sometimes it is okay to feel depressed. Sometimes it is okay to feel insecure. Sometimes it is okay to feel lonely. Sometimes it’s okay to feel annoyed about burning dinner in the oven. Sometimes it’s okay to feel like you need more support. Sometimes all of these feelings are going to happen all at once.

It’s important to recognize them, feel them, and ride them out as they come up. Not to drown in them, but to show yourself that you are not your feelings. Feelings come and go. “Every passing minute is a chance to turn it all around.” I’m going to watch Vanilla Sky now (one of my favorites), eat my burnt dinner, let myself feel whatever needs to come up, and remember that tomorrow is another day.
